STRESS-FREE PARKING COMES TO TOWSON TOWN CENTER
Extensive Exterior Renovations Enhance Customer Experience
As Holiday Shopping Season Begins
Towson, MD – (November 14, 2017) – Holiday shoppers will be the first to experience significant upgrades to parking at Towson Town Center. Renovations include color-coded parking decks; enhanced directional signage with space indicators at every key decision point; and “Park Assist” red light/green light technology to indicate available parking spaces. Signage has been updated throughout the center, indicating all major entrances, wayfinding and space availabilities. Additionally, enhanced landscaping will create a more aesthetically appealing welcome to the center that has been nicknamed by several elected officials as the “gateway to Towson.” In addition to the Center’s more than 185 stores and restaurants, several new-to-market retailers have recently opened or will be joining the mix in the coming months.
Towson Town Center customers have previously identified parking as a major “pain point” during their shopping experience. The extensive renovations range from color-coded parking decks for quick navigation and easier recall, to high-tech installments of a parking space guidance system. This system monitors every available parking space and alerts customers through red and green lights. Additionally, signs placed throughout the parking decks will display the number of open spaces available in each deck, each level and each row. Towson Town Center is the only shopping center in Maryland to have this state-of-the-art parking system.
With this system in place, drivers will no longer have to patrol up and down rows of parked cars, craning their necks, in search of a spot. The time it took to find a parking spot under this new system fell by 44% and the number of drivers searching more than five minutes was reduced by 12%.
Broader improvements include enhanced lighting and 1,600 standardized signs in and around the center. Several bridges from the parking decks to the center have been enclosed and nearly every entrance has been remodeled to improve the customer’s experience.
“The retail environment in high-quality centers is growing. Therefore it is important to enhance the shopping and dining experiences of our customers,” said Lisa Bisenius, Senior General Manager of Towson Town Center. “To that end, we have an entirely redesigned parking system that is significantly more intuitive to navigate, will lessen inconveniences and reduce the amount of time to get in and out of Towson Town Center.”
Joining the recently renovated Nordstrom and open for this holiday season will be Sports Etc., Rainbow and Foamcity. In the coming months The Brass Tap, Lou Lou, Riley Rose, and Lolli & Pops and food court eatery Indie Bowl will join these retailers. More store announcements are expected in the near future.
“Towson Town Center is the heart and soul of our community and is one of the area’s most successful economic engines,” stated Nancy Hafford, President of the Towson Chamber of Commerce. “I applaud their customer-centric philosophy and look forward to the future this is creating for the merchants and all who shop at the center.”
Towson Town Center is owned and managed by General Growth Properties, Inc., an S&P 500 company focused exclusively on owning, managing, leasing, and redeveloping high-quality retail properties throughout the United States. GGP is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and publicly traded on the NYSE under the symbol GGP.
