County Executive Kevin Kamenetz snipped the bright green ribbon and the second restaurant at Towson Square opened for business Oct. 27.
“We’re very excited to have just the second On The Border in the state,” Kamenetz said.
On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, which claims it is the world’s largest Mexican dining chain, joins Nando’s Peri-Peri, which opened in July, and Cinemark at Towson Square. Other restaurants, including Bobby Flay’s Burger Palace and Hanabi, are under construction.
“A lot of people shy away from competition,” Kamenetz said, noting all the neighboring restaurants in the works. “But you’re embracing it.”
The new Mexican restaurant, located at 121 E. Joppa Road and which employs 125 and has room for about 275 guests, introduced an updated concept for this location, according to Erik Skinner, Eastern regional director for the chain.
The restaurant features an open kitchen with mesquite grill, U-shaped bar and indoor/outdoor patio, along with new paint and decor. The trademarked beer-bottle chandeliers remain a part of the design. The chain will open another new eatery at Canton Crossing in November, according to Skinner.
