The top three college towns in America are Ithaca, N.Y.; Ames, Iowa; and Corvallis, Ore., Business Insider reported citing the American Institute of Economic Research’s College Destination Index.
Among metros, Boston topped the rankings, followed by Washington, D.C., and San Francisco. Among mid-sized metros, San Jose topped the rankings, followed by Austin, Texas and Raleigh, N.C.
Boulder, Colo., topped the rankings of small metros. It was followed by Durham, N.C., and Ann Arbor, Mich.
The AIER study compared college towns across the country based on their academic environment, city accessibility, quality of life, number of international students and professional opportunities. The destinations were classified based on population size.
Major metros are those with population of more than 2.5 million, mid-sized metros, with 1 million to 2.5 million, small metros with 250,000 to 999,999, and college towns are those with population less than 250,000.
